  46. <p>The mailing lists are the heart of the Boost community.&nbsp; You may
  47. read the lists via full-content email, email digests, or via newsgroup
  48. reader.</p>
  49. <p>Hosting for the mailing lists is donated by the <a href="http://www.osl.iu.edu/">
  50. Open Systems Lab at Indiana University</a>.</p>
  51. <p>Access to Boost mailing lists via newsgroup (NNTP) is contributed by
  52. <a href="http://www.gmane.org/">GMANE</a>.</p>
  53. <h2>Boost <a name="users">Users</a> mailing list (also available via
  54. newsgroup)</h2>
  55. <p>This list is oriented toward casual users of the Boost
  56. libraries.&nbsp; It is a good place to start if you are having trouble
  57. getting started with Boost or its individual libraries. Feel free to post
  58. both "newbie" and more challenging questions, but please check first to
  59. see if there's an appropriate <a href="#projects">Project-Specific</a>
  60. list; you'll often get better answers in a forum dedicated to your
  61. problem area.&nbsp; This list is relatively low volume (less than 500 per

  69. <h2><a name="main">Boost</a> developers mailing list (also available via
  70. newsgroup)</h2>
  71. <p>This is the main Boost mailing list.&nbsp; It is high volume (over
  72. 1000 messages per month), very technical, and oriented toward Boost
  73. library developers. It is also read by many other members interested in
  74. watching the Boost library development process.&nbsp; Virtually all Boost
  75. decisions, major or minor, technical or otherwise, are reached via public
  76. discussion on this mailing list.&nbsp; It is where the formal reviews of
  77. proposed libraries take place. Subscribe or unsubscribe at <a

  79. >http://lists.boost.org/mailman/listinfo.cgi/boost</a>.</p>
  80. <p>When we talk about the "members of Boost", we are talking about those
  81. signed up for this main mailing list.</p>
  82. <p>For those who prefer to participate via an NNTP (<a name=newsgroup >newsgroup</a>) interface, a gateway to the Boost mailing list
  83. is available at <a href="news://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lib.boost.devel" >news://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lib.boost.devel</a>.</p>
  84. <p><b><a name="gmane_post">Note:</a></b> Postings to the newsgroup will

  118. <h2><a name="projects">Project-Specific lists</a></h2>
  119. Several mailing lists have been established for specific Boost projects:
  120. <dl>
  121. <dd>
  122. <h3><a name="jamboost">Boost.Build</a> (jamboost) list</h3>
  123. The Yahoogroups mailing list for the <a href="../tools/build">Boost
  124. Build System</a> is located <a href="http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jamboost/" >here</a>. GMane provides <a
  125. href="news://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lib.boost.build">NNTP
  126. access</a> and <a href="http://news.gmane.org/thread.php?group=gmane.comp.lib.boost.build" >Searchable
  127. Archives</a> as well. Please see <a href="#gmane_post">this note</a>
  128. before posting to the newsgroup.
  129. <h3><a name="cplussig">Python C++-Sig</a> (for Boost.Python)</h3>
  130. The <a href="http://www.python.org/sigs/c++-sig/">Python C++-sig</a>
  131. is not strictly Boost-specific, but nearly all the traffic concerns
  132. <a href="../libs/python">Boost.Python</a>. See also the <a href="#langbinding" >Language Binding</a> list below. GMane provides <a
  133. href="news://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.python.c%2b%2b">NNTP
  134. access</a> and <a href="http://news.gmane.org/thread.php?group=gmane.comp.python.c%2b%2b" >Searchable

  137. at <a href="http://aspn.activestate.com/ASPN/Mail/Browse/Threaded/c++-sig" >ASPN</a>.
  138. <h3><a name="langbinding">Language Binding</a></h3>
  139. The <a href="http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/boost-langbinding" >Language
  140. Binding</a> list is for discussion of a generalized framework for
  141. binding C++ to other languages and systems based on the technology of
  142. <a href="../libs/python">Boost.Python</a> and <a href="http://luabind.sourceforge.net/" >Luabind</a>. The plan is to provide
  143. a single front-end for describing bindings with runtime-pluggable
  144. back ends for binding to specific languages. It is <b>highly
  145. recommended</b> that new subscribers read through the <a href="http://news.gmane.org/thread.php?group=gmane.comp.lib.boost.langbinding" >
  146. message history</a> <b>from the beginning</b> before posting; it will
  147. save time as much design progress has already been made. GMane
  148. provides <a href="news://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lib.boost.langbinding" >NNTP
  149. access</a> and <a href="http://news.gmane.org/thread.php?group=gmane.comp.lib.boost.langbinding" >
  150. Searchable Archives</a> as well. Please see <a href="#gmane_post" >this note</a> before posting to the newsgroup.
  151. <h3><a name="spirit">Boost.Spirit</a> lists</h3>
  152. Spirit has two additional mailing lists. <a href="https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/spirit-general" >Spirit-general</a>
  153. for Spirit users and <a href="https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/spirit-devel" >Spirit-devel</a>
  154. for Spirit developers (open to anyone who wishes to hang out with
  155. Spirit coders). Both have <a href="http://www.gmane.org">GMane</a>
  156. NNTP access (<a href="news://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.parsers.spirit.general" >Spirit-general</a>
  157. and <a href="news://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.parsers.spirit.devel" >Spirit-devel</a>)
  158. with searchable archives ( <a href="http://news.gmane.org/thread.php?group=gmane.comp.parsers.spirit.general" >
  159. Spirit-general</a> and <a href="http://news.gmane.org/thread.php?group=gmane.comp.parsers.spirit.devel" >
  160. Spirit-devel</a>).
  161. <h3><a name="boostdocs">Boost.Documentation</a> list</h3>
  162. The SourceForge mailing list for the <a href="../tools/boostbook" >Boost Documentation System</a> is located <a
  163. href="https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/boost-docs" >here</a>.
  164. GMane provides <a href="news://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lib.boost.documentation" >NNTP
  165. access</a> and <a href="http://news.gmane.org/thread.php?group=gmane.comp.lib.boost.documentation" >
  166. Searchable Archives</a> as well. Please see <a href="#gmane_post" >this note</a> before posting to the newsgroup.
  167. <h3><a name="ublas">uBLAS development</a> (ublas-dev) list</h3>
  168. A seperate user and developer mailing list for <a href=
  169. "../libs/numeric/ublas/index.html">Boost uBLAS</a> specific topics is located
  170. <a href="http://lists.boost.org/">here</a>.
  171. <h3><a name="testing">Testing</a> list</h3>
  172. <p>The setup, procedures and tools necessary for running Boost
  173. regression tests are discussed on <a
  174. href="http://lists.boost.org/mailman/listinfo.cgi/boost-testing">this
  175. list</a>. The list main participants are regression runners -
  176. people who run Boost tests on a variety of compilers and
  177. platforms, and the maintainers of tools for collecting and
  178. processing test results.</p>
  179. <p><b>Important:</b> questions relevant to a wider audience,
  180. including questions about Boost.Test framework or test results
  181. for a particular library, should be posted to main development
