  34. <h2 class="title">Welcome to the Boost C++ Libraries</h2>
  35. <p>Boost provides free peer-reviewed portable C++ source libraries.</p>
  36. <p>We emphasize libraries that work well with the C++ Standard Library.
  37. Boost libraries are intended to be widely useful, and usable across a broad
  38. spectrum of applications. The <a href=
  39. "http://www.boost.org/users/license.html">Boost license</a> encourages both
  40. commercial and non-commercial use.</p>
  41. <p>We aim to establish "existing practice" and provide reference
  42. implementations so that Boost libraries are suitable for eventual
  43. standardization. Ten Boost libraries are already included in the <a href=
  44. "http://www.open-std.org/jtc1/sc22/wg21/">C++ Standards Committee's</a>
  45. Library Technical Report (<a href=
  46. "http://www.open-std.org/jtc1/sc22/wg21/docs/papers/2005/n1745.pdf">TR1</a>)
  47. and will be included in the upcoming revision of the C++ Standard. More
  48. Boost libraries are proposed for the upcoming <a href=
  49. "http://www.open-std.org/jtc1/sc22/wg21/docs/papers/2005/n1810.html">TR2</a>.</p>

  66. History</a> for more information.</p>
  67. <h3>Getting Started</h3>
  68. <p>If Boost hasn't already been installed on your system, follow the
  69. <a href="more/getting_started/index.html">Getting Started Guide</a> to
  70. complete the installation. But if you've reached to this point by
  71. installing Boost from a Windows pre-build executable or a pre-built Linux
  72. and Unix distribution package, that's already been completed. Likewise, if
  73. you're reading this on your organization's internal web server, the
  74. installation is probably already complete.</p>
  75. <h3>Contents</h3>
  76. <p>The release directory tree contains almost all of Boost; documentation,
  77. sources, headers, scripts, tools, and everything else a Boost user might
  78. need!</p>
  79. <h3>Library Documentation</h3>
  80. <p>The starting point for the documentation of individual libraries is the
  81. <a href="libs/libraries.htm">Libraries page</a>, which gives a brief
  82. description of each library and links to its documentation.</p>
  83. <h3>Web Site</h3>
  84. <p>Some general interest or often changing Boost information lives only on
  85. the <a href="http://www.boost.org">Boost web site</a>. The release contains
  86. links to the site, so while browsing it you'll see occasional broken links
  87. if you aren't connected to the Internet. But everything needed to use the
  88. Boost libraries is contained within the release.</p>
  89. <h3>Background</h3>
  90. <p>Read the <a href="http://www.boost.org/users/">introductory material</a>
  91. to help you understand what Boost is about and to help in educating your
  92. organization about Boost.</p>
  93. <h3>Community</h3>
  94. <p>Boost welcomes and thrives on participation from a variety of
  95. individuals and organizations. Many avenues for participation are available
  96. in the <a href="http://www.boost.org/community/">Boost Community</a>.</p>
